Were there ever any third party coolers made for the voodoo 5? Something
like the Arctec Coolers that are available for current video cards?

Not specifically made, but there are a number of third party ones that fit
on a V5. About the largest still fitting ones is the Titan TTC-CUV2AB copper
cooler. I have two of those, but they must be mounted carefully, so that no
components break. Once they're in place, the V5 will run at peak load with
180 MHz without locking up, even in hottest summer.

Thanks for the reply, Dirk. Maybe I'll order a couple of those. The
summers do
get rather warm here in Phoenix, AZ.

Hey Dirk, if you're still around, is there any trick to removing the
heatsinks from the V5? They seem to be affixed very strongly as if 3dfx
didn't intent for them to be removed. I don't want to rip the whole GPU from
the board.

Just wanted to say Dirk that I tried this and it works great. Thanks very
much.

Wow!

Still one person on this planet using a 5 card.
I use it in an old Commodore Amiga.
Think i'll check out this cooler mod.

Still use my V5 5500 PCI in an old 300MHz PII system.
How did you get it to work in your Amiga? Haven't fired up my A2000
in years, might have to get re-acquainted with it if I could get this
card to work in it. Is there some hardware mod to add PCI slots to
it?

BTW, what's the cooler mod you refer to? Seem to have come in on the
thread late.

Back then I forgot to add, that I've also mounted 2 x 2 x 2 cm heatsinks on
the back of the card, base of the sinks narrowed to 1 x 1 cm to fit. Those
take off an amazing amount of heat too. Last not least RAMsinks, just for
the looks :)
